
Mary (Mert) Jeffers Young, 76, of Damascus, MD, passed away on February 25, 2025.
She was the loving wife to Thomas Slade Young who she married on May 17, 1986.
Born on December 10, 1948 in Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Richard W. Jeffers and Blanche P. Poole Jeffers.
Mary was an avid Orioles fan and loved to travel. She had a long standing career as the mail room supervisor for National Geographic for 48 ½ years. She had a passion for gardening, crossword puzzles, and spending time with her family.
Along with her husband, Mary is survived by her sons; Adam and Andrew Young, brother; David Jeffers, his wife, Kathy, sisters; Eleanor Wilkinson, Nancy Allnutt, Barbara Richards, uncle; Mark Jeffers, his wife, Betty, mother-in-law; June Young, brother-in-law; Jerry Young and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and a loving church community.
She was preceded in death by two brothers; Richard Jeffers, Daniel Jeffers, three brothers-in-law; Dean Wilkinson, Dennis Allnutt, Michael Young, two sisters-in-law; Loretta Jeffers, Alexis Young, nephew; Ricky Jeffers.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM on Friday, February 28th at Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Road, Barnesville, MD. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 1st at 11:00 AM, Dickerson United Methodist Church, 20331 Dickerson Church Rd. Dickerson, MD 20842. Interment to follow at Monocacy Cemetery, 19801 W Hunter Rd, Beallsville, MD 20839.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in her memory to the Dickerson United Methodist Church.

Heaven gained another angel!! Aunt Mert will truly be missed at the Mannebach backyard cookouts! It was such a pleasure to sit and chat with her and Elle.
