February 5, 1939 - February 19, 2025

Ronald Smith Kiley, 86, passed away on the morning of February 19, 2025, at Wilson Health Care Center at Asbury Methodist Village in Gaithersburg, Maryland. The son of Warren Patrick and Eleanor Mae Hall Kiley, Ron was born on February 5, 1939, at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington D.C. In May 1958, he met Ella Lee Webb at a dance in Woodsboro, Maryland, and they were married at the Urbana Methodist Church on November 29 of that same year.

Later, Ron and Ella became the parents of four daughters: Kathy Jean, Beverly Ann, Kimberly Dianne, and Theresa Lynn. The couple had twenty-five grandchildren and thirty-two great-grandchildren. Ron had an immense love for Ella, and he was deeply proud of his posterity and all they have accomplished.

After graduating high school in 1957, Ron worked at the David W. Taylor Model Basin and later for NAVSEA. He also attended the University of Maryland and American University for two years. Throughout his career, Ron enjoyed traveling around the United States and to several Caribbean islands, working on submarines, and running maneuvers. He found great satisfaction in working on the Trident submarine program. Ron’s career spanned 36 years. After retiring in 1993, he enjoyed working for a time as a driver for Enterprise Rent-a-Car.

Along with his family, Ron’s greatest legacy is his faith and devotion to Jesus Christ. In 1969, he and Ella joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. One year later, on March 19, 1970, they were sealed together for time and eternity at the Idaho Falls Idaho Temple. As a Latter-day Saint, Ron was an avid reader of the Book of Mormon and other scripture and doctrinal works. He and Ella served as ordinance workers for thirty years in the Washington D.C. temple and later served a two-year mission at the Church’s Washington D.C. Bishop’s Storehouse. As a missionary, Ron loved serving people in need.

A man of many interests and hobbies, Ron loved fishing, reading, studying history, listening to Irish music, attending Irish festivals, telling stories, and talking to his grandchildren. He also found great joy in playing the guitar, Irish whistle, ukulele, harmonica, and dulcimer. In 2001, Ron traveled to Ireland, fulfilling a lifelong dream to visit the cherished land of his ancestors.

Ron is survived by his wife, Ella Lee Kiley; his daughters Kathy (Robert) Hales, Beverly (Barry) Witt, Kimberly (David) Simmons, and Theresa (Todd) Metts; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his beloved maltipoo, Cody. He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Arthur Paul and Maggie Lee Frank Webb; and son-in-law Jeffrey Lee Hopkins.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 27, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 18900 Kingsview Road, Germantown, MD. Following the funeral service, a graveside memorial will take place at 1:00 p.m. at Parklawn Memorial Park, 12800 Viers Mill Road, Rockville, MD.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Ron’s favorite charity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
